Japanese Patents — How to Make Use of Them?
I have already been in the Korean and Japanese patent industry for 25 years.
It is no longer the time to stay at the filing stage; I want to turn my attention to making active use of patents, and for the past several years I have been engaged in technology transfer.
Because much of my activity takes place in Japan, I have done a fair amount of work selling Japanese companies' patents overseas.
I have mainly engaged in selling, primarily to the United States and elsewhere, the patents of major Japanese companies—indeed, of giant corporations whose names everyone would instantly recognize.
From now on, however, I would like to research and work on how the Japanese patents of Korean individuals and Korean companies can be put to use within Japan.
In fact, as the only Korean running a patent office in Japan, I have received various requests over the years, but because I focused on filing work, I was not able to help much.
Yet, seeing that Japanese patents obtained at great effort and considerable cost are not being put to good use, I came to feel uneasy about making a living solely by handling filing work on behalf of clients.
Therefore, going forward, with respect to the Japanese patents of Korean companies, I will undertake the following:
- 1. Sale or licensing of the patented technology: finding and connecting partners who will purchase or license the patent and conduct business within Japan.
- 2. Exploring sales channels: if you wish to produce directly in Korea and supply to Japan, I will explore this together with you as well. There is KOTRA (Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency), related organizations, and various other routes.
Let's think it through together.
